What is self.conference?

Self.conference is a mix of fantastic tech presentations and insightful soft talks in fabulous downtown Detroit. We're filling two whole days with languages, tools, diversity, empathy, process, and team talks to help you expand your knowledge, meet other technically-minded folk, and immerse yourself in Detroit's tech renaissance.

Interested in when things will get going with our call for speakers or ticket sales? Here's the plan:

  • April 16: Call for speakers opens
  • April 16: Earlybird tickets go on sale
  • May 18: Call for speakers closes
  • June 1: Scholarship applications open
  • June 1: Speakers announced!
  • June 8: Earlybird sales end, Regular tickets go on sale
  • June 15: Scholarship applications close
  • June 22: Scholarship winners notified
  • July 30: Regular sales end, Latecomer tickets go on sale
  • August 17: Self.conference!

Amber Conville works at Test Double, and has been a software developer for several years. She loves code in lots of languages, tdd, craftsmanship, and the software community, and can be found speaking at or helping out with user groups, conferences, and nerd gatherings whenever possible.

Aisha Blake

Aisha Blake arrived in Detroit in 2013 to serve as a Jesuit Volunteer and ended up on the leadership team for Girl Develop It Detroit. This inevitably led to a deep love of the tech community in Detroit and a desire to put down roots. She has since become the owner of a cat and a house. Aisha has taught web development to people of all ages in bootcamps, workshops, and online courses. She currently works as a developer for Detroit Labs. She is down for anything as long as there are puppies and/or karaoke involved.

Anne Cahalan

Anne Cahalan is an application developer at Detroit Labs and a survivor of their apprenticeship program. She makes apps with Xcode, sweaters with sticks, and cocktails with bourbon.
